Joint Japan/World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program
This scholarship program is offered to students of developing nations by the World Bank and the Japanese government. Applicants must have relevant professional experience after earning a bachelor’s degree and a desire to make a difference in their community.
However, only professionals with a bachelor’s degree who work in the development sector are eligible. These scholarships are provided for any of the Preferred Programs and Partner Programs at universities in Japan, the United States, Europe, and Africa, contingent on funding. Scholarship recipients receive tuition fees, a monthly stipend, round-trip airfare, a travel allowance, and health insurance.
Numerous prestigious Japanese higher education institutions offer these scholarship opportunities. Among them are the University of Tokyo, Meiji University, Keijo University, and a number of others. JASSO Scholarships
Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO) is a support group for international students in Japan. It offers two distinct types of scholarships.
The first is the Monbukagakusho Honors Scholarship for International Students with Private Financing. Students who have been accepted and enrolled at any Japanese university, graduate school, junior college, college of technology, specialized training course, advanced course, or preparatory course are eligible for this scholarship. The 12-month scholarship program provides students with a monthly stipend.
Student Exchange Support Program awards are the second type of scholarship. This is for students who have been accepted to any Japanese institution of higher education under a short-term student exchange agreement. Under this program, students receive a stipend for eight to twelve months. JASSO’s website provides additional information about both of these awards.
Japanese Government MEXT Scholarship Program
These are fully-funded MEXT scholarships for study in Japan, provided by the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology (MEXT). These are made available to international students so that they may pursue Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Ph.D. programs in Japan.
They are provided in an effort to boost international competitiveness and student mobility. Therefore, scholarships are awarded to students based on the recommendations of the Japanese Embassy or Consul General in the student’s home country or the Japanese university to which the student has been accepted or is enrolled.
The scholarship covers the full cost of tuition, a monthly stipend, a travel allowance, and other related expenses. Students of nationalities other than Japanese are welcome to apply. Mitsubishi Corporation International Scholarships
In collaboration with Japan Educational Exchange and Services, Mitsubishi Corporation provides yearly scholarships for study in Japan (JEES). These scholarships are intended to assist international students in Japan with their education. The awards are available for third- and fourth-year undergraduate studies, Master’s programs, and Doctoral programs. Under these awards, students receive a monthly stipend for the duration of their remaining degree program.
To qualify, however, students must already be enrolled in a degree program at a Japanese institution. Contact the Japanese university in which you are enrolled or have an interest in enrolling.
Asian Development Bank–Japan Scholarship Program (ADB–JSP)
Under this program, numerous students receive scholarships each year. The scholarships are for postgraduate study in science and technology, economics, management, and other development-related fields.
The scholarship covers tuition costs, a monthly stipend, housing, books, medical insurance, and travel expenses in full. Students must have completed their bachelor’s degree and enrolled in an MA program at a partner institute in order to be eligible for the program. Residents of particular countries qualify for the scholarship. After completing their studies, they must return to their home country and contribute to its development.
Among the partner, institutes are numerous prestigious Japanese institutions. Among them are The University of Tokyo, Tokyo Institute of Technology, Kyushu University, Koyoto University, and several others.
